A brief history of the Winterbourne and District Community Association
An inaugural meeting was held in March 1964 at The Ridings and, following the circulation of newsletters to local households, an initial membership of 370 was established. By 1970, the membership had grown to 900 and an annual subscription was begun.
In the early years, a number of groups and sections held activities all around the parish in various venues and funds were raised to support the running costs of the association. In 1967, a Building Fund was launched to raise money for a building to become the association’s permanent home. In December 1975, permission was granted by the Planning Authority for a building at Hoopers Farm in Watleys End. The building was completed in late 1976 and an official opening was held in April 1977. The building has since been extended and is now home to a number of regular clubs and activities.
